Oo-de-lally Doodles

Art from the Heart of Scotland

Welcome. My name is Lynda and I own Oo-de-lally Doodles. I am based in Stirling, Central Scotland.

I have been "arty" my whole life, but only started painting properly in 2019. Since then i have worked hard to create Oo-de-lally Doodles, finally registering as a business in 2023. It is a business run around my family, which consists of my super supportive husband, and my two wonderful children.

The idea behind the business was to offer affordable pet portraits, especially to those who may have sadly lost beloved animals. I have been an animal lover my whole life, and i know how much a loved pet can weave their way into your heart and never leave.

So I specialise in Pet Portrait work, using mainly acrylic paints on canvas. Work is tailored individually to each of my clients, and I always strive to deliver the highest standard possible.

Please feel free to browse previous work in my pet gallery, contact me with enquiries, and please do read the Frequently Asked Questions for a basic pricelist and more information on what I offer.

I also have a small store with some prints of original work and homewares available.

I hope to hear from you soon

As each painting is individually tailored to the client, a definite price cannot be given without speaking to you first to give you a quote.  However i have made up a basic price list for my most popular sizes of pet portraits

My most popular sizes are A3 at £70 for a single animal portrait and A2 at £100 for a single animal portrait.

Simple answer is no, i'm primarily a pet portrait artist.  I am not taking commissions for people portraits as i'm simply not confident enough to paint peoples faces.

However if you look through my art gallery you will see examples of "people portraits", mostly artsy landscapes, silhouettes or people from the back. If you'd like something like this please do enquire, just please no faces.

Unfortunately due to copywrite law i cannot offer commissions for celebrities or cartoons either - sorry!
I am based in Stirling, central Scotland. Art work can be collected from my studio, and local delivery is also available.

I do welcome clients from further away! Postage can be arranged to anywhere in the UK for stretched canvases up to A2 in size. Larger canvases have to be collected or delivery spoke about before the piece is started. All stretched canvases are ready to hang.

For worldwide shipping I offer a range of sizes of paintings on canvas boards. These can then be framed once you receive them for displaying. So far i have sent pieces to Canada, Ireland and Switzerland. Please do just enquire if this is something you would be interested in, and i can look at quotes for you.

  •  Cash on collection or delivery
  • I have a business registered PayPal, and you are more than welcome to use this to pay
  • Bank transfer - again i have a business bank account, and bank transfer is welcome as long as you are comfortable with this option.

I will not take a deposit unless the quote for your piece is over £100, in which case a 20% deposit will be asked for. This covers my materials, and is only refundable if i feel unable to complete the quoted work.

I will not take any other payments until the piece is finished and you are happy. Payment for items that require posting must be made prior to the work being sent.

Payment plans are available, but please note you cannot collect a piece until it is paid in full.
No! Commission paintings are all completed with a good old fashioned paint brush over a pencil sketch.
Not at all, I know how tricky this can be! This is where a small amount of digital manipulation can come in to my work.
I can take animals from multiple photos and put them together. I often do this digitally before starting the work to see what the finished composition is going to look like. Once you and I are happy with positioning, it is onto the actual painting.

I can also paint more than 2 pets on a canvas, please do enquire if you'd like multiple animals and we can discuss options
Once your place in my diary is confirmed, the most important thing needed from you, the client, are clear reference photos.
These can be sent to me via email, Facebook messenger or WhatsApp, whatever is easiest for you, and i'm happy to receive them whenever you have them ready.

The clearer the reference the better the painting will be. Ideally with no massive shadows or light glares that change the coat colour of a pet.
Multiple photos of a single animal can be useful, as sometimes markings or colours are missed or slightly off in a single photo.

I can make minor alterations to reference photos, but i am very much a "paint what i see" artist, so massive changes may not be possible.

I am happy to take on work with less than ideal reference photos, but please listen to my recommendations if this is the case (for example, an animal that has passed away and there aren't a lot of good photos to choose from). Often in these instances a smaller canvas works much better than a larger one, and if i feel this is going to be the case i will tell you.

Please also note that the most beautiful photos do not always make the best painting references. I have seen the most gorgeous photography that doesn't go well into the style of paintings that i do. I'm always happy to advise, and i reserve the right to refuse painting if i do not feel the work will be to the highest standard.

The other important thing i need from you, the client, is patience. Oo-de-lally Doodles is a registered business for tax purposes, but due to the nature of the work, timescales are given as rough guidelines. If a piece is needed for a specific date such as a birthday, the more notice given the better.
Each piece of art takes considerable time and organisation, and its all done around my family commitments (usually within school hours).  Sometimes circumstances outwith my control can cause delays in paintings, but i always try to work ahead of schedule.
Ordering - When my diary is open for commissions i will have a DIARY OPEN sign on the "ORDER" page of this website. This will also be advertised on my social media.  Once the diary has been opened emails are closely monitored and the diary is filled in.

I will open my diary in blocks, and they will work like this

Diary open early January for commissions from the middle of January to the end of March
Diary open early April for commissions from the middle of April until the end of June
Diary open early August for commissions from the middle of August until end of September
Diary open late September for commissions for the rest of the year including Christmas commissions.

Spaces available will be given on a first come, first serve basis. The amount available will depend on the size of paintings requested by each client.

If you enquire out with dates when the diary is open, i will add you to my "wait list"- which means you will be offered a space first the next time my diary opens, or in the event of a cancellation.

Turnaround time will depend on where in the diary you are for your "block". This will be estimated upon answering your initial enquiry, although it is not exact.  Most paintings are finished within 7-10 days of starting, depending on size.  You will receive a message a few days prior to your painting being started to make sure you are still interested.

If you would like a painting done for a specific date (Such as a birthday or anniversary) please let me know in your initial enquiry. I will always aim to complete these a few weeks in advance of the needed date, so plenty of notice is needed.
